Travel Information

Edinburgh is easily accessible by road, rail or air, although driving in the centre of Edinburgh is not recommended. The city itself has a very good public transport system.

Rail

Rail is the easiest way to get to Edinburgh. There are direct trains from many parts of Britain (including London, Newcastle, Birmingham, Manchester, Penzance, Aberdeen...).

Booking in advance (available from mid-January) is recommended, as this can mean a significant saving (sometimes it is even good value to travel first class!). Check National Rail Enquiries for fare information.

Sleeper trains from London are also available, and can be very good value if booked in advance. Look out for Bargain Berths, which can be as cheap as £19 for a single if you are lucky.

Please contact the organiser if you'd like advice - he's travelled by train from Edinburgh to all corners of Britain, so should be able to help you find the best way to get here.

Air

Several budget airlines fly to Edinburgh Airport, including EasyJet from Belfast, London and Bristol and bmibaby from East Midlands, Manchester, Birmingham and Cardiff.

There is a bus every 10 minutes from Edinburgh Airport to the city centre, which costs £6 and takes around 25 minutes.

Road

Edinburgh is at the end of the A1. Although driving in the centre of Edinburgh is not recommended, there are several Park and Ride sites around the outskirts of the city. See Edinburgh Council's pages for details.

Accommodation

If you're on a budget, there are city centre youth hostels, including Edinburgh Central and Budget Backpackers.

Hotels and guest houses are plentiful. You can expect to pay around £30 per night for a reasonable single room, or slightly more if you want to be close to the city centre. A good place to look is Late Rooms (especially if you are leaving booking late!).

Edinburgh's bus service is very good, and all fares are the same within the city (currently £1.20, exact fare only), so almost anywhere will be within easy access of the venue.

In any case, please feel free to contact the organiser for advice.
